Senior Electrical Engineer
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Electrical Engineer to join our engineering team in New Berlin, Wisconsin. This position will play a key role in the design, development, validation, and production support of custom wire harnesses, cable assemblies, control systems, and electromechanical interconnect solutions serving a diverse customer base across industrial, transportation, medical, aerospace, and commercial markets.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, customer-facing experience, and a passion for developing innovative electrical interconnect solutions while mentoring junior engineers and supporting manufacturing excellence.
Compensation
Salary Range: $105,000 – $135,000 annually
Compensation will be based on experience, technical expertise, industry knowledge, and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Position Summary
The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead electrical design activities from concept through production, working closely with customers, sales, manufacturing, quality, and program management teams. This individual will serve as a technical resource for complex electrical systems, custom cable assemblies, wire harnesses, and electromechanical integration projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of custom wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and electromechanical interconnect solutions.
- Create and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and technical documentation.
- Develop customer-specific electrical solutions based on performance, regulatory, environmental, and manufacturability requirements.
- Serve as the primary technical interface for customers during product development and production support activities.
- Perform electrical analysis, component selection, circuit verification, and design validation testing.
- Support quotation activities by evaluating technical requirements, risks, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure designs are optimized for production efficiency and quality.
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions related to electrical and product performance issues.
- Evaluate and implement design improvements to reduce cost, improve reliability, and increase manufacturability.
- Develop design standards, engineering best practices, and technical guidelines.
- Support new product introductions (NPI) and production launches.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across engineering projects.
- Participate in customer audits, design reviews, and technical presentations.
- Support compliance with customer specifications, IPC standards, UL requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 7+ years of electrical engineering experience in manufacturing, product development, or interconnect systems.
- Experience designing wire harnesses, cable assemblies, control panels, or electromechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and interconnect design principles.
- Experience with electrical testing, troubleshooting, and validation methodologies.
- Proficiency with CAD and electrical design software.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and convert requirements into manufacturable designs.
- Excellent communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within wire harness, cable assembly, industrial controls, transportation, aerospace, defense, medical device, or electronics manufacturing industries.
- Demonstrated experience designing power distribution assemblies, power whips for mission critical environments such as data centers, telecommunications or power generation.
- Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards.
- Knowledge of NEC requirements, UL, CSA, IEC, and applicable electrical safety standards.
- Experience with Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), risk assessments, and design verification activities.
- Experience supporting ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems.
- Project leadership or engineering team leadership experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
