Job Title: Substance Use Disorder Professional or Trainee (SUDP-T)

Job Summary:

The Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDP-T) is an entry-level position designed for individuals pursuing certification as a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) in Washington State. The SUDP-T will work under supervision to provide substance use disorder counseling and support services to individuals and groups. The primary responsibility of this SUDP-T role is to assist clients in their recovery journey, facilitate treatment plans, and gain hands-on experience in the field of addiction treatment and behavioral health services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Client Assessment & Treatment Planning:
• Assist in conducting client assessments, including substance use history, mental health screenings, and other relevant factors.
• Collaborate with supervisors and team members to develop individualized treatment plans tailored to the client's needs.
• Participate in case conferences and client reviews to assess progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
• Individual and Group Counseling:
• Provide direct client services under the supervision of a licensed Substance Use Disorder Professional, including individual and group counseling.
• Lead or co-facilitate group therapy sessions focused on substance use recovery, relapse prevention, and related topics.
• Support clients in setting and achieving recovery goals and provide guidance to overcome challenges related to substance use.
• Documentation & Record Keeping:
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records in compliance with state regulations and organizational policies.
• Document sessions, treatment progress, and any significant events or changes in the client's condition.
• Prepare required reports and provide necessary documentation for legal, regulatory, and billing purposes.
• Ethical and Legal Standards:
• Adhere to Washington State regulations and ethical guidelines for substance use disorder treatment.
• Uphold client confidentiality in all interactions and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other privacy laws.
• Stay informed about changes in the laws and regulations affecting substance use treatment and recovery.
• Supervision & Training:
• Participate in regular supervision sessions with a licensed SUDP or clinical supervisor to receive guidance, feedback, and support.
• Attend training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and gain experience in substance use disorder counseling.
• Work towards completing the required hours and competencies needed to become a fully certified SUDP in Washington State.
• Collaboration & Teamwork:
• Collaborate with other staff members, including mental health professionals, medical providers, and case managers, to support clients holistically.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to treatment team discussions and decisions.
• Foster a supportive and non-judgmental environment for clients, encouraging engagement in treatment.
• Community Outreach & Advocacy:
• Assist in promoting awareness and providing information about substance use disorder services in the community.
• Participate in outreach activities to educate the public on the signs, risks, and treatment options for substance use disorders.

Qualifications:

• Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Experience: No prior experience required but relevant experience in behavioral health or social services is a plus.
• Certification/License:
• Must be registered as a Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDP-T) with the Washington State Department of Health.
• Ability to complete the required number of supervised clinical hours and coursework for certification as a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP).
• Must pass criminal background check as per state requirements.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in an office, outpatient, or residential treatment setting.
• Occasional travel to attend training, workshops, or meetings as required.
