Job Overview

Haslett Child Development Center is look for a Great Start Readiness Program Lead Teacher who is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.

This is a full-time position (40 hours a week/12 months a year), Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm during the school year and flexible scheduling during summer months.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Utilize the Creative Curriculum to coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
• Lead by example; encourage teaching team’s success through modeling and coaching in all areas of classroom responsibilities such as but not limited to developmentally appropriate interactions with children, classroom cleaning, and diapering activities.
• Plan individual and group developmentally appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive, and emotional growth.
• Plan and execute a process for compiling anecdotal records within Teaching Strategies Gold and complete child portfolios for each checkpoint.
• Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, home visits, and parent- teacher conferences.
• Ensure all center policies and state licensing regulations are met for the assigned classroom and center overall.
• Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards, safety, and security of children.
• Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene, and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records, forms, and files.
• Contribute to the operation of the center by participating in staff meetings and training.
• Maintain confidentially for all student and staff information.
• Maintain a professional and approachable appearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education with a CDA (or willingness to complete CDA within 6 months of hire date, or willingness to complete a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education within 2 years of hire).
• Minimum of 2 years of lead teacher experience in a professional early childhood setting with knowledge and familiarity with licensing requirements.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and effective technology skills.
• Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment. Arrive to work consistently and on time when scheduled.
• Ability to lift up to 40lbs, bend and stoop, sit on the ground, and observe outdoor times in cold and hot weather.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
• Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
• Must clear full background check.

Pay: $18.00 - $23.50 per hour
