Project Engineer – Power Distribution & Control Systems

We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our growing team in Mount Vernon, NY. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse range of electrical power distribution, industrial control, and automation projects while developing both your technical and project management expertise.

Working alongside experienced engineers and project managers, you will be responsible for the design, coordination, and execution of electrical power and control system projects from concept through commissioning. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, collaborating with customers, and seeing projects through to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Design electrical power distribution and industrial control systems.
• Develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, and construction documentation using AutoCAD.
• Design and program PLC and HMI control systems.
• Coordinate projects from initial design through manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and customer handover.
• Develop project schedules and monitor project progress to ensure milestones are achieved.
• Prepare Requests for Quotation (RFQs), evaluate vendor proposals, and negotiate pricing with suppliers.
• Coordinate with customers, contractors, vendors, and internal engineering teams throughout project execution.
• Provide system start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical support as required.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the successful delivery of complex engineering projects.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
• Minimum two (2) years of electrical engineering or related experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Experience with PLC programming.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities.
• Proficiency with standard computer applications and engineering software.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
• Demonstrated leadership potential and a customer-focused approach.

Preferred

• Experience with electrical power distribution systems, industrial controls, motor control centers (MCCs), or switchgear.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA development.
• Project management experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or construction environment.
• Familiarity with electrical codes, standards, and commissioning practices.
