Job Overview

TDA METALS is seeking a reliable and motivated Scrap Metal Buyer to source and purchase scrap catalytic converters and non-ferrous metals from salvage and recycling yards. This is a hands-on role that involves traveling, building strong business relationships, evaluating materials, and managing inventory at our local hub.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, spending time in the field, and being active outdoors rather than sitting behind a desk. Most of your time will be spent on the road developing partnerships or on-site evaluating and loading materials.

Responsibilities

• Visit salvage and recycling yards to purchase catalytic converters and non-ferrous metals
• Build and maintain strong relationships with yard managers and suppliers
• Evaluate materials and negotiate purchases
• Load and transport materials to the local hub
• Unload, sort, and prepare materials for shipment to the processing facility
• Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory records
• Follow all local, state, and federal regulations regarding handling and transportation
• Operate forklifts when needed

Requirements

• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Ability to regularly lift 30+ lbs and work in outdoor yard conditions
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus
• Experience in metals, recycling, salvage, or related industries is preferred but not required
• No prior industry experience required
• Monday through Friday
• Flexible hours based on travel and supplier schedules
• Some days may require early departures or later finish times depending on route and workload

Compensation & Benefits

• Paid training at $21.00/hour (approximately 60 days)
• $60,000 annual salary after successful completion of training
