POSITION: Director of Athletics & Physical Education Teacher
FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, 12-Month Position
REPORTS TO: Principal
Salary Range: $42,000 - $70,000 (based on experience)
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Athletics & Physical Education is a mission-aligned educator and administrator responsible for leading Saint Martin de Porres High School’s athletic programs and teaching Physical Education. This dual-role position fosters student development through sports, physical education, and leadership opportunities while promoting a culture of faith, purpose, and service.
The Director will oversee the full operations of athletic programs, including compliance, scheduling, coach management, and game-day operations, while also serving as a physical education teacher focused on the holistic wellness and fitness of students. The ideal candidate is both an experienced teacher and a dynamic program manager committed to student-centered education and team development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Director of Athletics
- Oversee all athletic programs and performance groups aligned with the Saint Martin mission.
- Supervise coaches, manage hiring and evaluation processes, and ensure compliance with OHSAA and school policies.
- Manage all scheduling of games, facilities, practices, and transportation, including coordination with external facilities and referees/officials.
- Maintain student-athlete eligibility and compliance (academic, health, authorization forms, etc.).
- Lead pre-season meetings, game-day logistics, team meals, and student travel planning.
- Serve as school liaison for conference participation and athletic organization communications.
- Maintain accurate athletic records, forms, and eligibility documentation.
- Develop leadership programming for student-athletes in collaboration with the Principal
- Organize and lead team awards nights and school-wide sports recognitions.
- Coordinate updates to athletic web pages and use tools like MaxPreps, FinalForms, and myOHSAA.
- Promote athletics through collaboration with the Marketing and Admissions departments.
- Contribute to the broader student life calendar and supervise athletic and performance events.
Physical Education Instruction
- Teach Physical Education classes using a student-centered approach focused on lifelong wellness, fitness, and teamwork.
- Develop weekly lesson plans and quarterly unit plans aligned to the school curriculum and instructional expectations.
- Create a positive, structured classroom environment that encourages participation, safety, and physical development.
- Use informal and formal assessments to track and support student progress.
- Coordinate field trips and experiential learning aligned to health, wellness, or fitness goals.
- Communicate proactively with parents and guardians as needed.
- Participate in interdisciplinary planning and collaborate with professional learning teams.
- Model diligence, flexibility, and a growth mindset in support of school innovation.
- Participate in school life, including Pillar Fridays, Corporate Work Study Program support, and Admissions events.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Ohio Licensure Preferred: Physical Education AYA (7-12) or Physical Education MA (K-12)
- Master’s Degree is preferred; however, a Bachelor’s degree with appropriate experience will also be considered.
- OHSAA certification and/or Pupil Activity Permit required (or ability to obtain).
EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years of experience in teaching and/or athletic administration in an urban environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES
- Commitment to Saint Martin’s mission of faith, purpose, and service through education.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with tools such as Google Suite, FinalForms, myOHSAA, and MaxPreps.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and non-standard hours for athletic events as needed.
