Position Summary
JARI is seeking a community-focused Small Business Specialist to join its small business team. Reporting to the Vice President of Economic Development, this position serves as a trusted resource to entrepreneurs and small business owners by providing one-on-one coaching, technical assistance, financial guidance, and connections to resources that support business startup, growth, sustainability, and expansion.
The ideal candidate enjoys building relationships, solving problems, and helping people turn ideas into successful businesses. This individual will work closely with entrepreneurs from a variety of industries, guiding them through business planning, financial management, capital access, operational challenges, marketing strategies, and other key aspects of business development.
Success in this role requires a passion for community development, excellent communication skills, strong small business insight, and a genuine desire to see businesses and communities throughout Cambria and Somerset Counties thrive.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide confidential one-on-one business consulting and coaching to entrepreneurs and small business owners.
- Assist clients with business planning, financial analysis, budgeting, cash flow management, and operational planning.
- Review and interpret financial statements, tax returns, and other financial documents to help business owners make informed decisions.
- Guide businesses in identifying financing opportunities and preparing for capital investment.
- Connect entrepreneurs with local, state, and federal resources, funding programs, technical assistance providers, and strategic partners.
- Assist businesses with marketing strategies, growth planning, workforce development, and succession planning.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with business owners, lenders, educational institutions, community organizations, municipalities, and economic development partners.
- Represent JARI at community meetings, networking events, workshops, conferences, and business outreach activities.
- Support the planning and delivery of entrepreneurial education programs, workshops, and special initiatives.
- Maintain accurate client records and reporting requirements using organizational databases and software systems.
- Stay informed of small business best practices, financing programs, and emerging business opportunities.
- Collaborate with other members of JARI's team to advance organizational goals and strengthen the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
- Three or more years of experience in business consulting, entrepreneurship, accounting, finance, banking, economic development, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
- Experience owning, managing, or advising a small business is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of business operations, financial management, financial statements, budgeting, tax returns, and business planning.
- Knowledge of QuickBooks or other accounting software is preferred.
- Experience working with entrepreneurs or small businesses is highly desirable.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout JARI's service area.
