About the Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer to join our growing custom wire harness manufacturing team in New Berlin, Wisconsin. This role will support production operations by developing efficient manufacturing processes, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring high-quality standards are maintained throughout the production lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have experience in manufacturing engineering, process development, lean manufacturing, and production support within a discrete manufacturing environment. Experience with wire harnesses, cable assemblies, electronics manufacturing, or similar industries is highly desirable.
Compensation
Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000 annually
Compensation will be based on experience, technical qualifications, and demonstrated manufacturing engineering expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, document, and maintain manufacturing processes, work instructions, and production standards.
- Create and update manufacturing routings, bills of materials (BOMs), and process documentation.
- Design and implement tooling, fixtures, and production aids to improve efficiency and quality.
- Support new product introductions (NPI) from prototype through production launch.
- Analyze production workflows and identify opportunities for cost reduction, waste elimination, and throughput improvements.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Collaborate with Quality, Production, Supply Chain, and Engineering teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Support capacity planning and manufacturing scalability initiatives.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including productivity, scrap, rework, and on-time delivery.
- Assist in equipment selection, validation, and process qualification activities.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Participate in customer audits and support regulatory or quality system requirements as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3–7 years of manufacturing engineering experience.
- Experience developing manufacturing processes in a production environment.
- Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience leading continuous improvement projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in wire harness, cable assembly, electronics manufacturing, or electromechanical assembly environments.
- Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards.
- Experience with CAPA, PFMEA, Control Plans, and process validation activities.
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or equivalent).
- CAD experience for fixture and tooling design.
- Knowledge of harness manufacturing quality requirements including ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management systems.
