Electrical Engineer – Automotive-90-95k
Sunset Vans is a leading manufacturer of mobility vehicles in the United States. We are currently experiencing an exciting period of growth and transformation.
This Engineer role focuses strictly on low-voltage (12V) automotive and vehicle architecture. We are an need of an engineer who will design electrical routing, build wire loom assemblies, manage connections, and integrate vehicle network communications.
Role Overview
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to lead the design and physical integration of vehicle low-voltage (12V) electrical systems and communication buses. You will be responsible for end-to-end wire harness design, electrical routing, and Controller Area Network (CAN) bus integration. This position is strictly focused on low-voltage systems; No High Voltage (EV) experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Wire Harness Design: Design and develop detailed 12V wire harnesses, ensuring optimized physical routing and manufacturability.
- Loom Assembly & Connections: Select proper wire gauges, connectors, terminals, and protective looms. Create detailed harness drawings, 2D/3D schematics, and interconnect documentation.
- CAN Bus Integration: Implement and integrate OEM communication networks (CAN Bus). Ensure reliable data exchange, node terminations, and shielding for low-voltage electronic control units (ECUs).
- System Analysis: Perform electrical load analysis, voltage drop calculations, and power distribution mapping.
- Validation & Testing: Develop Design Verification (DV) test plans, prototype wire looms, and utilize oscilloscopes and multimeters to validate system performance and diagnose communication faults.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with mechanical, software, and R&D teams to ensure electrical components route seamlessly within the vehicle's physical constraints.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a closely related discipline.
- Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in automotive, heavy equipment, or related low-voltage vehicle electrical systems design.
- Technical Skills:
- Deep understanding of 12V power distribution, grounding, and fusing strategies.
- Proven experience with CAN bus protocols, physical layer specs, and network debugging.
- Proficiency in CAD/EDA software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, SOLIDWORKS Electrical
- Standards: Familiarity with wiring harness fabrication and installation standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620). [1]
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving capabilities and excellent written and verbal communication
