About the Role
This is a hands-on technical role. The Product & Business Development Manager is the technical backbone for our sales and operations teams across 21 branches in 7 states. You’ll be the expert customers, Territory Managers, branch personnel, and leadership turn to for product recommendations, oil and chemical analysis, and field problem-solving — driving profitability and growth by making sure the right fluid is in the right application and the value behind it is clearly understood. Success in the role depends as much on translating technical detail into plain language for many different audiences as it does on the underlying chemistry and processes.
You’ll support a range of lubricant and chemical fluid brands and work directly with each brand’s representatives to hit the goals set each year.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as a key agent of technical communication and project management for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide field support to customers, including equipment inspections, filtration services, plant surveys, on-site fluid and oil analysis, and failure analysis.
- Initiate product recommendations and provide cross-references across all brands and product classes for customers, Territory Managers, branch personnel, leadership, and others as requested.
- Develop product labels, Safety Data Sheets, and product data sheets; ensure they are effectively utilized; and communicate their status and availability to all affected stakeholders.
- Support marketing literature by writing and editing content to ensure accuracy.
- Develop new products as needed based on customer or Hampel personnel requests.
- Interpret and own oil and chemical analysis results from various third-party labs on behalf of customers, the sales team, and branch personnel.
Job Requirements:
What We’re Looking For
- Communication across audiences: able to communicate clearly and adapt your message across many different types of people and roles — from field technicians and branch staff to Territory Managers, leadership, and external customers and vendors.
- Project management: strong ability to plan, coordinate, and drive multiple projects and stakeholders to completion.
- Technical presentation: able to present technical information and value propositions to large, diverse audiences and one-on-one in a way that lands.
- Software and digital tools: comfortable using everyday business and digital tools — including a CRM, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and AI tools such as Claude — to manage customer relationships and build documents, presentations, and analyses.
- Data interpretation: able to interpret oil and chemical analysis and other data and turn it into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Owner mentality: takes initiative and full ownership of products, projects, and outcomes — acting like the business is your own and following through without being asked.
- Application-minded: genuinely interested in the real-world applications of lubricants, chemicals, and the processes they serve — and motivated to apply that knowledge to create value for customers and for Hampel.
- A robust understanding of industry equipment and processes, and of how lubricants and chemicals impact their performance.
- A drive to challenge yourself and help others meet or exceed company expectations.
- Learns, stretches, and teaches: eager to keep learning and stay current with industry changes, willing to take on new and unfamiliar challenges, and able to turn around and teach others — customers, sales, and branch teams alike.
- Works independently and as part of a team: self-directed enough to own and drive work without close supervision, and collaborative across sales, technical, and operations teams to drive shared success.
Required
- 5 years’ experience in the chemical or lubricants market in a role that supports the overall sales process.
- Bachelor’s degree in a science field (chemistry or chemical engineering preferred), or equivalent industry experience paired with relevant certification.
- Texas-based, able to travel 25–40% within the region.
Strongly Preferred
- STLE Certified Lubrication Specialist (CLS) and/or Oil Monitoring Analyst – Level I (OMA-I) certification.
- Experience in midstream natural gas and compression, or with chemical products such as coolants, dehydration fluids, and amines.
Growth Path
This role sits at the technical center of a growing, multi-state distributor and offers a clear path to deepen your specialization and expand your influence across product lines and regions as Hampel grows.
Candidates will be subject to a background check and drug screen, in accordance with applicable laws.
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
