Brigham Young University (BYU) reviews

The environment was very unfriendly for LGBTQ people. Coworkers were very insistent on defending the organization and pretending that LGBTQ people are treated fairly, and had little tolerance for differing perspectives. The tasks were frustrating, and often required help that wasn't easily available to set up software. The environment had little room for any social interaction, coworkers largely avoided conversation.

My primary issue with BYU-Idaho is the total lack of a legitimate means of communication from faculty to administration. Transformational programs and policies have been enacted since I began teaching here with absolutely no attempt to elicit faculty feedback on any of them. The Faculty Association has tried to represent concerns of faculty and, as a result, has lost its official status on campus. The only formal means we have to communicate with the administration are: 1) pass it up through the department chair; 2) submit questions by email that they may or may not choose to address, and if they do it is to "instruct" the faculty member; and, most recently, post on Facebook, which may be removed if it reflects negatively on the university. This has led to a highly cynical faculty that feels completely detached from the decision-making process at the university. The other primary concern has to do with work load. Twelve hours of teaching per semester for three semesters a year. No load release is given for committee or other assignments. Many of us work 60+ hours per week without additional compensation.
