Can be a great growing experience

Pros

Great access and opportunities. Often times you get as much out of the experience as you put in, so know yourself prior. Hard work pays off. Very close knit group. Leadership helps you find a good next step - be that schooling or your next job.

Cons

Limited room for growth and once you have reached your growth potential can get a bit stifling and monotonous. Things might have changed, but can be a fire in the inbox sort of culture.

Pros

Extremely high quality people at all levels, not only with respect to subject matter expertise and professional recognition, but also in terms of personality, respect for junior staff, and collegial atmosphere. The organization is very serious about developing the next generation of natsec talent. Many opportunities for independent publishing, also authoring/co-authoring publications with senior fellows (not anonymously or in acknowledgments section as is the practice in virtually all other DC think tanks). Access to luminaries in the natsec field. Great opportunities for building network. Lots of professional development opportunities and social events.

Cons

There are no real cons I can think of, especially comparing this organization to the work culture of many other think tanks in DC.

Very supportive internship; lots of opportunities to interact with staff and sit in on fascinating meetings

Like most DC internship wasn't fully paid
