Pros

Very few. Benefits package is okay

Cons

Good ole boys club. There are no real promotions. All promotions are filled by selected individuals. Job postings are simply a legal requirement. Open favoritism by all levels of management. Rampant hypocrisy. Frequent turn over. Managers blame their failures on staff. Militant HR turns on their own people.

Pros

The health benefits are decent. It's privately owned.

Cons

The media industry has changed a lot over the past decade and they don't seem to understand the need to be a technology company. They used to have a ton of extremely talented people, but after some top-down changes by the company, there was a mass exodus. Decisions are all made top-down, often with the help of outside (and expensive) consultatation. They are outsourcing a lot of their technology work. They want to be content producers and their business model is built around advertising but honestly they don't produce much quality content, and advertising is already a flooded market. They claim they care about their people, but in the past couple of years it appears more than they only care about the bottom line. It's also very difficult to move around within the company, and despite losing many people, there was supposedly no budget to promote others.

Pros

CMG has excellent benefits as part of the Cox family of companies, and the backing of the corporate behemoth suggests that the company can weather whatever befalls the media industries as a whole and will tend to support its employees through whatever transitions may come.

Cons

Contrary to what another reviewer stated as "bloat" in the technology division, CMG's technology department suffers from myopic leadership, where the primary driver for technology solutions is "whatever the media division wants" at any given time. The "mediocre digital products" from the technology department are a direct result of these variate desires designed by committee. Software development processes are being driven from a product management organization that's far more concerned with the status quo than producing working software. While the corporation as a whole attempts to promote diversity in the workplace, technology's upper management has eliminated many of the diverse leaders in the organization, and the roster of leadership now reads like your average Silicon Valley board.
