Cons
If you are a program director, know going in that you will not be given access to budget information. In general, money is always purportedly tight, but you will never be given access to information in order to actually see what funding is available. I would recommend looking at the publicly available Form 990's for the organization. Funding steadily increased across several years, and costs rose each time to nearly meet but not exceed the level of funding. Simultaneously, programming and number of employees appears to have dropped off. Grant fund requests are written and then funds are used in other areas. It's probable that a rider is attached stating that that may happen, but know that you may face an ethical dilemma where you are asked to essentially take funds from another organization who is actually doing work in a given area by requesting those funds, knowing they will be used elsewhere. The CEO, Michael Delia, comes to work only a few days out of the week, often for less than five hours at a time. Some weeks he doesn't show up to work at all. There is little transparency about his schedule, but critical on-site tasks regarding physical paperwork are often routed through him. Purportedly, he is often off-site working on acquiring funding for the organization, while simultaneously claiming that the organization is in dire financial straits. In general, working at EEH has a malaise about it. A lack of transparency regarding the management of the organization, high turnover rate, and frustrations for anyone working directly with the CEO are common. There are employees at EEH who have worked there for over a decade in their same position without receiving raises. Program director positions appear to rarely be filled through internal promotion, and in the case of every position I saw filled, an external hire filled it.
