Top notch research hospital - Technical Research Assistant II Brigham and Women's Hospital Employee Review

Pros

Located in Boston, you'll make plenty of connections with Beth Israel, Children's, Dana Farber, HMS, etc. all within walking distance. Plenty of opportunity for collaboration. BWH is a top hospital with top doctors and researchers. The hospital also has perks such as discounted tickets to museums, aquariums, six flags, and even sox games.

Cons

Boston can be expensive to live in/near. Expect to pay $1400+ just in rent per month to live alone, plus amenities, and in my case my pay at the institution was barely enough to break even each month. Commuting into the city is extremely difficult and parking will cost you money, and as far as I know BWH did not have any reimbursement policy.

Pros

Benefits are good, generous time off policy.

Cons

Very low pay, especially compared to other institutions in the area. They do not consider a master's degree in salary calculations unless that job specifically requires a master's degree. Your experience as a lab tech varies heavily based on the PI you work for. Cannot get far without a PhD.
