Pros

I like the people I work with Local government means lots of checks and balances to keep things equitable Amazing benefits If you have a good work ethic, your manager will advocate for you Good work/life balance, generous sick time allowance in addition to 2 weeks of vacation (increases the longer you've been there)

Cons

Pay is just okay Positions have to be approved by council before being filled, which makes things take a long time Can be hard to enforce folks pulling their own weight once they pass their probation A position can't be advertised or filled until it's already vacant - this means every single time a position is vacant, someone is left doing 2 jobs for the price of one which is frustrating.

Pros

The people working for the City of KC are dynamic and very knowledgeable. There can be great cohesion and amazing team work.

Cons

Don't let the drama and gossip get to you. Remember that you're working for the city and that is important. It can be ridged at times and people will talk about you, so just be aware and remember what you say to whom.
