If you work in Administration you'll quickly learn that the company is 20 years behind in technology. Many managers are highly egotistical and easily criticize you - one particular manager had no problem telling me how inept I was. Now, I can handle criticism, but right after I was criticized the manager would then go into a long winded speech about how AMAZING they themselves were - which is the part that I couldn't handle. Some days, when this manager was telling me how perfect and awesome they were I actually thought I was being punked. I've never been privy to such an ego maniac. I suppose it's pure insecurity.. I've always believed that if you have to continually tell people that you're smart, perfect, amazing, competent, skilled, etc - that you probably aren't. If you are all these things, then people would recognize it.
Sadly, this manager holds little respect from their peers and direct reports. This manager is actually a bright person, but is crippled by this ego-maniac flaw.
I've noticed that managers in this department are all the same... They rule by insults and have very little diplomacy. The LA Phil is a really cool environment being ruined by senior managers.
