Pros

M&A is one of the rare consulting companies that has more geologists than it does engineers. As a geologist, that means I feel centered in the company's mission and I'm surrounded by potential mentors. Also unusual for a consulting company, M&A also has exceptional work/life balance. If an employee averages more than 40 hours/week, they can choose to be paid for the extra time or they can take that much time off later, or any combination of the two! M&A is a smallish company with a relatively flat organizational structure. Whenever I have a question, comment, or concern, it's easy to connect with the person who is in the best position to help me. My work is a good mix of office work and field work, left brain and right brain. My project managers don't just see me as a tool to get a job done. They care about my professional goals and try to assign work that will interest me. Coworkers are supportive and are very generous in answering questions.

Cons

Given that the California staff are split between many small offices and that many people work from home, there isn't much in-person interaction. Inevitably, for all the interesting and varied tasks, there are also some tedious tasks. Thankfully, they are the exception, not the norm.
