The company structure (3 CEOs, each of their own group, separate product, IT, sales, marketing, etc.) invites competition between home and auto divisions. Sometimes this competition isn't friendly and makes the company less efficient (e.g. do we really need 3 CEOs, 2 CFOs, and several varieties of CMOs?). Partly because of this, the politics here are among the worst I've seen at any company. Also because it's a small company, there isn't a great process for raises or promotions. Too many promotions happen because an employee gets an external offer, and threatens to quit. They tend to pay well to get in the door, but by the time I left I estimated I was about ~25% below my market rate. My friends familiar with the company advised me when I was considering my offer here, to be happy with the pay I was going in for, since I would have it for a while. That turned out to be true. It's also tough to be a woman. A senior (male) leader, sometimes my manager, would tell me once every 1-2 months how pretty I looked, in a meeting, in front of others. It was a different person almost every time, so it's not like this was a one-off. I was asked often by people in other departments about room availability or catering. When I asked for a raise, one of my managers asked me why I needed the money, since I didn't have any children. I wasn't openly sexually harassed, and I liked most of the people there, but it wasn't easy.

Dress code is ridiculous. Most of the companies allows employees to wear jeans. But here irrespective of job type, everyone has to wear business casuals. Once in a blue moon they send out an email saying “you can wear jeans tomorrow” and everyone goes nuts. It honestly feels like employees are treated as slaves and the management behaves as if they are doing a favor by allowing us to wear jeans one day. Pay is way less than the market. Most of the people here stay at those salaries for very long. Promotions are very rare too and are only awarded after 3years if you are an exceptional performer. People who meets expectations and not over-performing stay at the same level for many many years. Most people here are reluctant to changes and they are struck with legacy softwares. Not much cutting edge stuff here. I noticed that most employees settle down with those salaries and work style and stay in their comfort zones with no drive to innovate/grow.
