Great Place for High Performers

Pros

This is a place of very clear outcomes. The owner has very high expectations, structures for high accountability, and expects high achievement. This is a growing company with owners and leaders who have a growth mindset. Innovation is a focus. It is a very social environment where people perform as a team. There are about 30 employees, and if I must say so myself, the business is filled with pretty awesome people.

Cons

If you don't want to be held accountable to a high standard, then this is probably not the place for you.

Pros

This organization at the time I was there had a strong traditional media background and had been developing their digital side of the business further. They had a nice team and many legacy newspapers that served the Birmingham area and surrounding communities.

Cons

The greatest challenge there, is not really about the company itself. Covid really impacted all businesses during my time there. I was there during the time the office could not be open to public and moved on to another role shortly after.

Hard work but good people

Pros

I agree with the other reviewer that this is a business with high expectations for its employees. You work hard and wear a lot of hats in a small business, so I can see how this might not be the right fit for every personality style. But there are good coworkers I enjoy spending time with, who have your back if you need help, and these newspapers have a lot of love from the community. And I've found if you can meet the expectations and take on challenges, the pay is good both for the industry and the area.

Cons

It's the news business. Hours are going to be weird and occasionally long, sometimes it's frustrating and you have to be flexible with last-minute changes.
