Pros

I learned a lot about crisis intervention and was able to get my CPR and first aid certification for free. On paper, their philosophy for dealing with traumatized children in crisis is great.

Cons

None of the staff implement the therapeutic strategies and they do not believe they work. As someone with a background and education in child psychology and trauma, I can tell you that what they are teaching will in fact work and is developmentally appropriate for the demographic they serve. However, they are willing to hire anyone and everyone which means there's not always quality employees who are committed to the vision of Thompson. My supervisor was extremely toxic and engaged in bullying behavior towards myself and other employees. My mental health was at an all time low while working here because while this job is incredibly hard, having management and other staff not support you and create division makes it impossible. Additionally, when these issues came about with my particular supervisor, the claims were not taken seriously and repeatedly brushed off until multiple employees (10+) wrote emails to HR citing similar interactions with this supervisor. The vision and goals of Thompson Child and Family Focus are wonderful on paper, but the people they have in place are extremely toxic and actively contribute to an abusive environment.

Pros

Serving children that are victims of abuse and trauma is a privilege.

Cons

Inexcusably poor communication regarding the day-to-day operations of the PRTF. A lack of professionalism from leadership and low expectations of direct-care staff. Punitive treatment of all staff, salary and hourly.
