A.Y. McDonald has named Steve Dalton as the new President of Val-Matic Valve and Mfg. Corp. of Elmhurst, IL effective May 1, 2021. Mr. Dalton will succeed John Ballun who is retiring in May after a 26-year career with the Company. Dalton, who began his career as a consulting engineer in the water works industry in Chicago, joined Val-Matic in 2011 and has BS and MS degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering along with Professional Engineering Registration. As Director of Engineering, he participated in standards developing organizations including AWWA, MSS, ASSE, and API. A.Y. McDonald CEO Rob McDonald said, “with his consulting background and Val-Matic tenure, Steve brings a wealth of industry experience and leadership to his new position and will guide the Company through new challenges and opportunities as Val-Matic continues to grow.
After a 26-year career with Val-Matic Valve and Mfg. Corp., President and CEO John V. Ballun will retire from the company on May 15, 2021. Over his tenure, Ballun served as Vice President of Engineering, launched the initial ISO 9001 certification process, and led the development of Val-Matic’s quarter-turn product lines. As President and CEO, he led the Company through six years of sustained growth in the water and wastewater valve markets and recently oversaw the acquisition of Val-Matic Valve by A.Y. McDonald. He also represented Val-Matic for many years as a board member and past President of the Manufacturers’ Standardization Society (MSS). Ballun has published numerous articles on valve technology for the Valve Manufacturers Association (VMA) and contributed to several standard development organizations including the American Water Works Association (AWWA). John and his wife Jayne will be moving to Green Bay, WI and adopting winter sports activities with their two daughters’ families.
A.Y. McDonald has acquired Val-Matic Valve & Mfg. Corporation, of Elmhurst, Illinois on December 31, 2020. Val-Matic Valve was founded in 1966 by Andrew Nuter and is a manufacturer of fourteen valve product lines for the water and wastewater, industrial, commercial building construction, and plumbing industries with an additional manufacturing facility in Addison, Illinois. John V. Ballun, Val-Matic President and CEO, stated “My management team and I are excited and proud to join the family-owned, historic company A.Y. McDonald. Val-Matic has a similar tradition of serving customers in the water works market for over 50 years with quality products and services.” Rob McDonald, A.Y.
