It is rare for companies to offer a pension plan, so this is a great benefit. However, the plan benefits are not as good as they used to be for employees hired more than 5 years ago.

My 4 star review is based on the older pension plan. The current plan offers about half the benefits versus employees who came to AARP prior to 2005.

It's a pension plan. Very few employers offer one. And it's well funded; so we anticipate actually getting our pensions in the future.

AARP still has a defined benefit pension plan - it is not as generous as it used to be, but it is still a substantial benefit if you stay there a long time

Vests after 5 years. That's unique and keeps employers there. Often you learn of someone at 4 years looking to meet the 5 before they leave. And its through TROWEPRICE

Not many companies left offering a pension plan. 5 years to be vested and a great place overall to work.
