The process is so arduous. A manager I know recently decided the process was too confusing and tedious and he would use vacation to recover from heart surgery and work from home. I do not think this is a common issue, but this is a "check the wiki" culture which can make it hard to get the help you need. I have a coworker who has received generous accommodations to care for a sick family member and received nothing but support.
