Caltech offers two dental insurances. The HMO has very low cost and reasonable coverage.

Dental insurance is cheap ($60/yr) and covers a couple cleanings a year and basic procedures.

Very good dental covrage and benefits

Delta Dental and Safeguard (MetLife). Safeguard is a scam, It's an HMO insurance, so you have to stick with the dentist you choose, but the problem is the dentist doesn't follow the statement of charges. They try charging you a grand for a few crowns, when it's supposed to be $50 each. The dentist makes up lies and pads the bill with nonsensical items, like deep cleaning, irrigation fees of $400, etc. They make up for it any way they can. Safeguard doesn't enforce the copay, and says the dentist can do whatever they want. It's a total scam. Stick with the 2k that you get from Delta Dental.
