Sick days are built into your pool of days if you are hourly/ non-exempt. Exempt/salaried have more flexibility.

PTO is to cover vacation and sick time, prior to about 2008, it was separate and you got less time off as a result. They decided to stop paying for unused sick days and gave us PTO which whoppered myself with 30 days PTO. I don't see how anyone can complain that being sick and taking PTO takes away from your vacation time. I have worked in places where you got 3 sick days a year and had to work a year to get 5 vacation days, and a corporate job I have you earn your own hours to take holidays off and vacation time off. Sick days at C1 can usually be work from home days so no PTO needs to be taken. It is a prime deal, don't see how anyone can actually complain about it.
