You get 3 wholesale car buys per year which means you can buy cars customers trade in or sales at the price carmax puts in plus $300 purchase fee plus tax title license for example if we offer $1000 on a car a customer is trading or selling, we can potentially sell that car in auction for $1250 which means if you want to buy that car you would pay $1250+$300+tax(ect.)=$1600 cash

It is hard to explain. Carmax has wholesale cars, and what they consider retail or front lot cars. To my knowledge, they are very restrictive about employees buying retail cars. I have heard they will only let you buy cars that have been on the lot for a long amount of time. I am not 100 percent sure, as I have never tried to take advantage of this perk.

Retail cars can be purchased almost at cost. Wholesale cars can also be purchased at cost but there is no warranty or support after purchase. Service department is substantially undersized for the volume of cars sold.
