They are state mandated for the amount of hours you get but if you want to call out sick they make you search around to make sure it gets covered or they state you must come in anyway. And if you happen to be so sick that you don't show up they will punish you by cutting your hours

When an employee is sick, they can call in sick and come back to work after they get better. However, an employee must bring in a doctor's note within 2 days or else the employee will get points.
