no match whatsoever, they try to mask it with 'stock options" that only vest fully after 4 years

The only positive about the 401k plan is that it exists. There is no match. Hopefully that will change some day in the future.

There is no match, at all. HR/Recruiters will constantly tell you they keep hoping it's going to get "fixed" this year, but it's clear from the top that this benefit is not in line with his plans. The mindset at the top leadership is to provide equity stake through stock options. This is assumed to be more lucrative and demonstrates employees being "entrepreneurs", which is leaderships way of robbing hard working employees of a benefit that promotes steady retirement growth.
