The on-the-job training used to be really good, but not anymore. Go to a rah-rah employee orientation, then come back, get your required certification in the technology you cover, and they throw you to the wolves. There is a training budget you can use but it's not enough to cover a SANS course. You will also have required training throughout the year that may be relevant to your job. Frequently it is not.
