Need to cover so many more diversity subjects. Company has was too many family and friends employed together without the HR department even knowing about it. Neighbors, friends, are working together and shutting down advancement of a regular person looking to get ahead. Middle managers are fearful of anyone wanting to move up in the company. Extreme shut down for anyone who has unique and out of the box ways of trying to give to the company. Things are dismissed even before the ideas are brought to the correct levels of management. Owners need to go out into the field "under cover" to see exactly what is going on in the front lines. Diversity can be grown by giving those lowest on the chain the hope that someday they can be promoted to even middle management. At this point the fear of even asking for a better position is met with a NO or a look online for job openings. Even though others in the chain find out about positions even before they are posted. Each year they have Diversity Events, but for the whole of the lower rungs of employees, they have really no hope. Very sad. There are extreme amount of very hard working, educated people in these entry level jobs, yet there really is no hope for them. Long term dead wood managers who do the minimum as far as their jobs and stay under the radar, keep any good people from floating up the management team. Very bad managers know how to play the HR game, writing up the smallest infractions for those employees they do not personally like. Making life miserable for these people until they quit or are dismissed. A very upsetting trend that I am sure that owners do not even know is happening. Dozens of really wonderful team members are no longer employed because of these management games that are used for many years. It doesn't seem important to middle management, but they continually wonder WHY people will not apply for jobs. Very low pay, very little respect by long term managers is what is happening. Why apply for a job where a person who sits above you for 15-20 years is preventing any upward movement. When a position becomes available, the favorite or relative of another manager gets the position. Diversity in a Program is a good thing for the company, but if educated, hard working low level team members are being held down because of all the above management type, it defeats the purpose of a Diversity Program. Everyone wants to know they have a fair chance to work themselves up the ladder in a company. Relatives, friends, neighbors, and any other person will get the job before you. That word travels fast. Very fast. If owners read this. This is WHY you can't find people to apply for low level jobs. LOW pay for what is being asked to be performed. AND No chance of upward movement. Managers that privately cause fear and grief for those who they feel will cause them competition in the future. This has happened so many times in the past years I see nothing changing in future, unless drastic measure of draining the swamp are done.

For those who have a place in the groups, it seems very present. A little too present and in your face at times.

Hallmark spends a great deal of time promoting their diversity programs. It is openly supportive of all races, sexual orientation etc
