You automatically receive long-term disability after 3 months of being disabled (ie FMLA) thru the company, or you can also buy short-term disability and start taking disability right away (or maybe after 2 weeks?) if you are injured or have to take leave.
The long-term disability really helped when I was injured, it was a life-saver and easy to apply for and receive.
