We received at least 3 days of b-time each year. Never a hassle to use it.

It depends on your particular leadership and their definition of family. I had one great leader who allowed me 3 days of paid leave to travel out of state for my best friend (of 30 years) mother's funeral, but my current leader would not approve anything for my husband's aunt because she wasn't "blood relation". She also demands copies of death certificates to "prove" people were not "just abusing the system".
