SM&A offers both Short and Long term disability to all eligible employees. The Unum Short-Term Disability Plan provides income protection insurance that replaces a portion of your income if you are unable to work due to a short-term injury or sickness. There are no pre-existing condition limitations under this plan, and pregnancy disabilities are covered. SM&A pays 100% of the cost of this coverage for all employees.
Long-Term Disability benefits begin after 90 days of being disabled (see LTD Disability definition in table below). Your Short-Term Disability coverage may automatically be transferred to our Long-Term Disability coverage, provided through Unum. For eligible employees SM&A pays 100% of the cost, otherwise this benefit is available at a cost through payroll deductions.
