The pension plan is fully funded by Sutter. We don't see it in our account, but Sutter does send letters in regards to the pension plan. They also contribute about half of what you contribute, up to a certain percentage under your 403b as well...Overall, this is great for employees as other companies may have you pay for your pension plan. Not a lot of people even know their pension plan exists with sutter.

It depends on your position (MD, RN, RPh, PA, etc.) and if you work a minimum of 1000 hours a year (~20 hours a week). Vestment is 5 years of service. It is 2-3% a year of service (so say I get a 2% benefit and work for 35 years, then I get 70% of my monthly pay per month). You can retire at 50, but you will have reduced monthly pay (59% is cut out of your potential monthly paycheck). Department of Defense (ie VA) is 1% a year (really bad!), while CALpers was 2% at 62 (there is a maximum amount). It also depends which Sutter Health facility has it or not. You have to contact the specific facility's HR department.

It’s vested at 5 years so it’s a good incentive to stay with Sutter long term.

They want to give you a "cash out" lump sum so they avoid any pension for their employees

It's 1000 a yr if you work 1000 hrs. I'm not sure how that compares to orher companies.
