The newer retirement program is different.

Depending on when you joined you may be eligible for a pension

Tsp is alright but don't forget it when you get out

The military pension at 20 years of service is hard to beat anywhere else. 40% of your final active pay given to you as a pension starting at 38 years old (assuming you joined at 18), immediately effective for the rest of your life... unheard of anywhere else. Even if you don't make 20 years, Soldiers now get a 5% match on 401k contributions, that vests immediately.

Having a pension is a great thing. Percentage based on how man;y years you serve

legacy pension at 20 years of service.

Anything after 5% is auto matched.

You receive 40% of base pay after retirement and a 5% 401 match.
