What does a quant do in a bank or hedge fund? Is it the same work as a machine learning engineer?
Are we getting to the point where AI is becoming a crowded trade, or do you still think we’re in the early innings? How are you positioning client portfolios without simply chasing performance? I feel like I’m constantly explaining sector concentration to clients. Yes, your friend did very well in all AI but it’s not realistic.
Am I showing my age? 😄 I interviewed a young candidate for a financial advisor position & explained that the first 3–5 years usually require long hours & a lot of networking to build a book of business. After the interview, he politely declined, saying he was looking for better work-life balance. It got me thinking: Has the definition of career success changed, or is “paying your dues” still an important part of building a successful career? I’d love to hear different perspectives. I’m only 45!

They were both fired. Granted, this was about 20 years ago, so times may have been different. What’s your story?
