For all introverts out there, how do you develop business?
What’s the last hobby or project you took on for yourself? Looking to find more balance and do things more than just work and attending work related events.
I left my associate attorney position to do a federal clerkship for a year. How do I explain to friends and family that it’s not like a demotion even though I won’t be practicing as an attorney? All the non-law people I tell seem confused as to why I would take a lower paying, temporary, non-attorney job for a year.
My firm offered a stay bonus. Three people quit last month, so they offered the survivors $15k to sign a one-year commitment letter. I need the cash, but I feel like I’m signing away my mental health for a relatively small price. Smart to decline?
I'm at a crossroads. Practicing 10 years, have a small book of my own clients and have a significant position for a huge client. I am the heir-apparent to the senior partner's book. I don't like the rainmaker pressure of a firm and would love to manage litigation in-house or something like that. But I feel like if I don't stay and take over his business that I'll be letting the whole office down and if I don't stay, the office would essentially be dead and have to close. Not sure what to do.
Has anyone quit a job after around six months?
Mostly by meeting people in a position to send me business. I have to pay attention to my energy reserves to do it well.
Develop expertise, and write a lot about it. If it’s good enough, people come to you.
This is the way.
Do great work and get referred to new clients.
D, all of the above. Also I am several partners’ go-to for cross-referrals. Pay it forward to get paid back.
All the above. Also find opportunities for one-on-one or small group coffees/lunches/happy hours. I do much better in a small group setting where I can engage in a good conversation than bigger firm sponsored events. Those are overwhelming. It helps to read industry publications/listen to podcasts so you have something to talk about. My approach is to ask questions so I don’t have to talk as much
I do T&E lit and my best referral sources are conflict adverse probate admin lawyers.
Well at least that’s not niche.
