      User Experience Designer Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at 1E in Sep 2014

      Interview

I went through a recruiter answering a job ad looking for a UX/UI designer with strong UI skills. A 30 min telephone interview with the CEO confirmed that this was what they were looking for and I was scheduled for a face to face interview for 1 hour. I met with the CEO and someone from marketing. Most of the interview revolved around discussions concerning how I could improve the user experience and user interface of their applications and create a unified look and feel. I was asked to return for yet another interview this time for two hours. I met with the CEO and a another member of the team who had been at the company for only four days. Then I met with another two employees. It was quite obvious that the CEO and the other team member did not agree on what my role would be. The next day I received feedback from the recruiter. Not only did they state that I was "too UI focused" but they essentially stated I was pretty useless for anything and lacked ability. I have been doing this kind of work for 20 years and I have been in my current role for 1 year and 6 months. This company is very confused about what it is they want from a potential hire and their feedback showed a distinct lack of class and respect for a candidate they had asked for over 3 hours of interview time. Perhaps the most negative interview experience I have ever had.
