I originally reached out to the VP of Engineering as we had a previous professional relationship. He forwarded my resume over to the recruiting department and I was contacted rather quickly to set up the first round of interviews. The first round involved meeting with the VP of Technology and VP of Engineering to discuss my style and methods for dealing with operational and interpersonal issues. I then met with the manager of the DevOps team and a DevOps engineer to further discuss the role, how I manage the introduction of new technologies/processes/etc, and more discussion regarding interpersonal communication and issue resolution. There were a few technical questions/discussions, but nothing heavy. I was invited to return for a second round. This time, I first met with a member of the DevOps team and the lead scrum master. We briefly discussed topics such as communication style, exposure to Agile, and documentation. We then launched into a highly technical discussion around Kafka and how it could be utilized in a hypothetical application infrastructure. My next meeting was with two software architects. This was a discussion that involved designing a backend service to support a mobile app in a niche vertical (I won't go into any further detail in case they wish to re-use this scenario). This session was consumed by whiteboarding and defending my design decisions. A couple days later, I was invited back to meet with the President of the company. We discussed the history of Affinipay, the business model, target audiences, and other business type topics. Note: I was assigned a programming exercise to be completed prior to the scheduled interviews. I completed and returned the assignment, but it was never brought up during the actual interviews (and I know I had a serious bug in the code).
