      Interview

The screening call went well enough though be prepared to speak about any role you have ever had. They wanted me to go into detail even for a mid-level job I left over a decade ago. The round with the hiring manager was rough. It felt like I was talking to someone who landed in a senior software leadership role they were underqualified for and they were trying but failing to play the part. They barely told me who they were, acted like they didn't want to be there, and asked several questions that were very poorly worded. They kept interrupting me to ask follow-ups and some of the things they asked didn't make any sense, like when I was explaining a basic tool my team built to help with a certain part of our job and they cut me off to ask if the tool was monolithic or microservice. When I tried to explain that it was neither they didn't seem to understand what I was talking about. At the end of the call I was given only 5 minutes to ask my own questions. They kept giving vague answers and got prickly when I asked my own follow-ups. I found it odd too that they never made any mention of the people or culture or really any positive aspects of the company that I would have expected to hear in a job interview. A week later I was asked to do the next round but ended up declining.
