I interviewed with a freelance recruiter based in SF. Despite committing to providing updates, she regularly dropped the ball and missed updates on dates she imposed on herself. Eventually, this recruiter responded to say the hiring leads thought I was 'great' and they 'loved me,' but 'I just need more time.'
In regards to the interviews, I was scheduled to interview with (2) hiring leads. After joining and waiting on the google meet for 15 minutes, the recruiting coordinator joined and apologized for the hiring leads. When the interview was later rescheduled, both hiring leads joined >5 minutes late and asked each other if any of them had, "the PDF of questions we are supposed to ask." Clearly, they were unorganized.
At this point, I've interviewed with 5+ people over a span of 2 months with nothing to speak for. After weeks of gentle nudges, I have yet to hear back from this freelance recruiter despite her asking if I could leave my current role without providing a two-week notice.
Overall, it's been an incredibly unpleasant experience and quite frankly, a waste of my time. The lack of transparency and being strung along has led to me withdrawing my candidacy.
My advice — keep your candidates in the loop. It's dehumanizing and anxiety-inducing to be promised updates and ghosted shortly after. I imagine this team feels comfortable with these dated recruiting practices since they recruit for Apple. However, this interview experience is likely indicative of the experience I would have had should I have accepted an interview offer.
