I was contacted by a recruiter about a HR opportunity with AKQA in San Francisco. I spoke with the Senior HR Manager located in Portland, OR. It was a fairly straight forward phone interview. I liked my conversation with her so, I was curious to hear more about the company and the opportunity. I was invited to go to the SF HQ to meet with the HR team and do a Zoom call with the individual in OR. There was some internal scheduling issues so, I was only able to meet with one member of the HR team and do the Zoom call. I was asked to come back for a second on site interview to meet with the rest of the HR team the two managing Partners and someone in a senior role in the Finance department . Another scheduling issue. One of the senior Partners wasn’t available and the other one was on site at a client and it was now a phone call in a conference room. I met with the rest of the HR team. The HR team were all fairly new to the company. I enjoyed meeting them and felt I could work with this team. They seemed to need some HR leadership that weren’t really receiving. I was asked to come in for a third in person interview to meet with the two managing Partners. The first Partner was very nice and super engaging. Asked some great questions and seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. My last interview was with the other Partner. Couldn’t be any different. He was ten minutes late . Continually checked his phone. Answered not one but two calls while I was in mid sentence. He left the room to take a third call. He came back asked some questions that were fairly irrelevant to the job. Complained about the current HR team. I knew right away I could not work with this person. I was told several days later they were passing because the one Partner did not like my answers. I think I laughed so hard when I heard this. I told the recruiter that would be fine if he actually asked me a question.
