Initially applied on line to Aldi after being informed of a few openings in my selected area, (Haydock st helens). Luckily passed the on line tests, so was invited a week later for an assessment (which is basically a 1 hour one to one interview in my case) at westpoint in st helens. Will give you sample questions below. Felt very relaxed at interview with area manager and a 2nd HR person, who introduced themselves etc. Interview went really well, in fact I thought i would fail due to nerves, but they made me feel really relaxed. Went home and almost straight away there was an email waiting for me to go a week later to westpoint st helens for a work experience, the idea being you do two hours easy enough work, and if they like you and you like them too, then should be ok. (You actually think you have the job already on the basis of being invited for work experience, and this is the failing factor).
I felt it went really well, but sadly 3 weeks later, yes 3 weeks later, an email saying I was not successful, and not to apply again for 12 months. I thought this a bit harsh, the 12 month thing, as it felt as like a ban which occurs for example when drink driving.
I will never know to this day what the failing was, as I was so excited about joining Aldi, people say perhaps it was because I was showing tatoos while sat on a till (a test till), or other reason. Suffice to say the two hour experience was superb, enjoyed time with all the staff, and will never know what happened, due to Aldis refusal to provide feedback, which really would help in 12 months time.
I dived straight into job applications after that let down, and another company Lidl, took me on, and truly I have not regrets, a superb company in every way, and extremely generous too, and I consider myself really lucky. Thanks to aldi anyway, for a great experience with a rather sad ending.
