Very unprofessional in their approach to interviewing me. I can live with rejection, but not the way they handled it. When I saw them June 25, the editor and hiring manager acted like they were so impressed with me and seemingly kept me in the office forever, seemingly promising the moon. They even asked if I could start as early as the week of July 2 (the next week)! Then, the editor and hiring manager made me "twist in the wind" for like a month until, pulling teeth, they finally told me they "suddenly" found a "can't miss candidate," and certainly did not welcome me to submit an application to be "hired for the next available opening." I believe they purposely created "a false sense of hope" out of sheer spite, for whatever reason, maybe just "to play some kind of game with me," in that I probably was an "older candidate" than they were used to. The editor apparently even tricked me, telling me I had up to a week to complete an audition assignment, to take my time, no problem, then asserting in rejecting me that "time management" in doing the test assignment was a criteria in the decision. Well, you can bet that the editor was determined he was not going to hire me in any event by "tricking" me into thinking I had time, because he likely figured it was possible that I could have beaten "a younger candidate" mandating a tighter deadline so I was likely going to be rejected no matter what. Probably if I mentioned my age - 57 - on the resume, I wouldn't even have been called. Just a big waste of time, glad I wasted theirs my worst suspicions were confirmed and all they had to say June 25 was "thank you for coming, don't call us, we'll call you," to avoid this negative review.
