      Technical Project Manager Interview

      Oct 28, 2018

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at ASAPP (New York, NY) in Aug 2018

      Interview

The process started when a recruiter saw my profile online and contacted me via email. Had a phone conversation and then asked me to run with a “simulation” which wasn’t more than coming up with a project schedule and identifying risks and issues for a hypothetical project. After the hiring manager reviewed the results I provided, we had another phone conversation to talk about the role, but the time wasn’t enough and eventually scheduled a second phone conversation when I was told that my profile fit better another role they were also hiring for. Accepted another conversation with another hiring manager which happened after a few days. They offered to bring me to their offices for another set of interviews with the hiring manager and another executive. A few days later they email saying they want to proceed and asked me to come over to their office for a full day of interviews which I accepted. The next day they decide that I was a better fit for yet another role instead of the second one. Spoke with a peer of that role to understand more about their responsibilities (to this point I didn’t have any background) and the next day they decided not to proceed. So after speaking with a total of 14 people (some of them multiple times, making it the longest, most confusing and redundant interview process I’ve ever been a part of) the employer decided I wasn’t a good fit for the company at all. For a young organization that is consistently growing and is in need of expanding its leadership team, I believe their hiring practices need to be streamlined and adjusted to the level of the team their hiring for. Most importantly, they need to be clear on what they’re looking for, what their needs really are and possibly seek the expertise and experience of a staffing firm instead of managing the hiring process locally. My two cents.
