The recruiter was nice and helpful, I had to wait for 2 weeks for a first call from the company, the call went well, just a general talk about my background and interests, the interviewer was nice and professional, good talk, I felt there's a strong match. On site was scheduled for a few days later at Ab Initio offices near Boston, I arrived the night before and started the day at 8:30 in the morning, first interview with a guy from engineering, what a great and professional guy, I felt like we could talk about technology forever, he presented the company software concept, he was fascinating and again I felt a strong match with the company and the position. Followed up by another interview, I had to repeat some of what was said in the earlier interview, I usually find this boring, but the interviewer was listening carefully and seem professional and nice. Next a product demo was scheduled, an extremely talented engineer was showing me their system, the way of thinking was not new to me, it all made so much sense, beautiful system! I told myself I could do magic using it. the only strange part was that we both come from the same country, when we were alone in the room, I told him its fine if we speak our language, and he said it will be easier in English ... For lunch, a surprise! another guy from my country, this time a very senior guy, I thought it would be so nice to have a nice conversation and a nice pause in the middle of the day, it turned out to be the most terrible time I could imagine, to the point that I've considered stopping the day right there, going to the car and never look back, its still shocking to realize how rude someone can be in a 5 minutes talk, it went something like the following, me: "Hi, we could speak our language over lunch, how nice" with a smile... him "we only speak English in this company" frowning, then we walked to the dining room in silent, sitting together with the food I said "I'm really impressed from I've seen so far, I think I've done something similar in the past, but you guys took it even further", he replied "don't think you know what we are doing, you are in Boston! where people are very smart, I suggest you will just listen and try to ask the right questions" took another bite and left, leaving his plate on the table... wtf?! I had an offer waiting for me and at that point I thought I'll just say I had enough and that I want to leave, but I didn't, and Im happy I didnt, because the next interview was with one of the nicest, most intelligent and humble person I've ever met, he patiently told me about the history of the company and together we analyzed the system architecture of my last startup, I think it was the only interview I had that I didnt want to end! :) what an impressive guy! In the end of the day, I thought that I'd have to do some serious thinking if I get an offer, its a company that exists from the early 90s and so as its management team, forget about cool and nice atmosphere, think heavy procedures and hierarchy. A call from the recruiter a few days later saying that "it seem that I wont be patient to customers" solved the dilemma, leaving me angry, insulted and disappointed, even when I know I'd better choose the other offer I had anyway.
