      Jul 21, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Santa Clara, CA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Abbott (Santa Clara, CA) in Jul 2018

      Interview

Did not have a phone interview with HR. I was first contacted by hiring manager for a phone interview. During the phone interview with the hiring manager, she did not ask any questions about my resume but talked for almost 20 minutes about the area and how great it was to live in Santa Clara. The hiring manager ended the call by saying they would be in touch shortly. A week later I received an invitation for an on-site interview. When I arrived for the interview, the receptionist had to spend 30 minutes calling before they could find any of the people I was there to interview with. The first person I interviewed with was from quality, he was very nice and asked detailed questions about my resume and experiences. The second person I interviewed with was from R&D, he was very rude and just talked about himself. The other three people I was supposed to interview with (HR, hiring manager, and person on the team) didn't show up for work that day and no one knew why. A week later I did a phone interview with HR and then a second phone interview with the hiring manager. Second phone interview with the hiring manager was the same as the first, all about how wonderful it is to live in Santa Clara. No technical or resume questions. Received offer two weeks later but declined it. I thought it was very odd that the hiring manager would only talk about how "great it was living in Santa Clara" and how people didn't show up for work one day and no one knew why, especially when they were scheduled to interview with me that day.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Hiring manager spent a lot of time talking about living in Santa Clara. Did not seem relevant to the interview process. She never asked any technical or resume questions.
