I spoke to the hiring manager at length and felt the conversation went quite well. Weeks later, after hearing nothing, I contacted the in-house recruiter and learned (as I expected), that I had not been selected. However, he refused to provide any indication of why (once I've had an interview, I typically ask why I wasn't selected. Good hiring managers are willing to explain their reasons - ones that aren't are probably not worth working for anyway since it shows a clear lack of professional courtesy). As it happens, I learned through a separate channel that I was passed over because I was overqualified for the position, though this was not at all apparent in the JD or from the conversation I had with the hiring manager. I felt their handling of this was entirely unprofessional. Based on other reviews, though, I suppose it was a good thing I was passed over.
