Where do I begin. Meet the receptionist, get sat in a room. The room looks like a prison interrogation room. Meet with two managers, clearly they have no idea what they are trying to hire for. Lots of buzzwords. Looking for someone to change how they deploy code. Well actually they are looking for someone to change the company culture. And also deploy code. More buzzwords. I ask to use the bathroom. Take walk down the office. Office stinks, cubicals look like depression and sadness. Nobody is smiling. Nobody is working. Just sitting. Like a Dilbert comic. It stinks like 1980s telecom grey. Sit back down, continue panel interview. Get asked one single tech question over the span of 3 hours "What do you like about powershell". Is this a joke? I try and answer every question as bad as I can. Please get me out of here. Why did I even drive this far? This coffee is terrible. I hate this place. Please end the interview early. Get asked "Why do you want to work here?", respond "I'm not sure I do".
I ask about the company. "We just switched to a casual dress code. Yea we're changing for the better, before it was just casual shirts on Fridays". Ok. That's enough. This is not a fit.
Final panel of developers walk in. Is this the part where we talk tech? Kind of. Except they lead with "tell us about the cloud". OK, what do you want to know? "Well we don't really know anything, we just want to know what the cloud is about". Is this a consulting meeting or an interview. Can't tell. Everyone here is clearly a mindless robot stuck in 1990s software hell.
Interview ends, thanks we'll let you know next week and give you feedback. Awesome, can't wait to hear it. Call next day from recruiter, they say you are too abrasive. Perfect. Plan worked as expected, except I didn't get out early enough. Laugh as I hang up.
